TRIED & TESTED: ECO FURNITURE DESIGN
written by Karisa
I’m doing a “Tried & Tested” blog series featuring locally made products & small business that I love. If you have any suggestions of awesome small businesses to check out – please email me at: editor@capetownmylove.com ♥
For me, one of the signs of “becoming a proper adult” was becoming totally obsessed with all things decor & furniture related, and over the past few years I’ve come to really appreciate custom, handmade furniture pieces above mass-produced items one would find at large furniture retailers.
I was drawn to Eco Furniture Design for the following reasons:
- They have a beautiful range of furniture pieces that you can edit any which way you require.
- They also do completely custom pieces – you dream it, they’ll make it!
- Everything is locally sourced & locally made.
- They make use of sustainable wood timbers & eco-friendly finishes.
- They’re an awesome, passionate team who’s focused on social upliftment and continuous skills training.
I currently have two of their pieces. The first is a gorgeous blackwood dining table:
And the second (and most recent purchase) was this custom-made TV Unit:
I’m super in love with both pieces & in the event I’m in the market for another furniture item, Eco Furniture Design will definitely be top of my list. Until then, I enjoy scrolling through their Instagram account for furniture inspo. I mean just look at this drool-worthy selection of some of their other pieces:
They offer both online & in-store purchasing options. They have a small showroom in Woodstock (399 Albert Road) and a larger flagship store in Durbanville (12 Wellington Road). Got something unique in mind? Then simply use the contact formhere to tell them what you’re looking for. Want to shop from their existing product range? Then have a look through their online store – for each item you’ll still be able to select your timber type (including SA pine, Oak, Blackwood, Saligna & Ash) and finish (from clear or white-washed to darker stains).
They’re actually also celebrating their 10th birthday this month & are running an awesome giveaway where 2 people will walk away with a furniture prize to the value of R10 000 each (one here in Cape Town & the other in JHB). To stand a chance to win, head on over to their Instagram page, like the post below & tag 3 friends.
www.instagram.com/ecofurnituredesignsouthafrica/ – there are also other R1000 vouchers up for grabs.
But ja, next time you’re in the market for a new coffee table, desk, or whatever it may be, please keep Eco Furniture Design in mind. I promise you it’s worth spending a little bit more (not that I think their prices are bad at all!) on something that’s a much better quality & will give you many many years of service. Cheaply made furniture is not only bad to look at (and more expensive in the long run because you will inevitably have to repair/replace it), but it’s also just really bad for the environment. A beautifully made furniture piece is something that you can enjoy for years & even pass on with love, and I’m all for that.
